And Driscoll is clearly leaning in one direction.

Seems to me that a balance is necessary regardless of whether Paul meant one thing or several at once.

Some churches/traditions place too much burden on the "professionals", the clergy, pastors, etc. Others place heavy burdens for evangelism and church work on lay people which are oppressive and tyrannical. And I would be concerned about both problems. 1 Cor. 12-13 would be one place to go to insist on the breadth of gifts and callings and grounding it all in love which ultimately ought to result in freedom and edification for everyone.

I just printed out Gordon's article from JETS. Looking forward to reading it. Thanks.Tobyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15535764613687631886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4107600.post-56262845454712061022011-01-12T15:59:56.441-08:002011-01-12T15:59:56.441-08:00Have you ever read T. David Gordon's criticism...Have you ever read T. David Gordon's criticism of the view that the ministry of the church is done by the saints and the equipping of those saints is to be done by pastors? I'm pretty sure Mike Horton's referenced it or published it in Modern Reformation.

Part of me thinks it's debating semantics but the other part says that if Gordon is correct it could free some lay people from crushing burdens.

What do you think? Have you come across Gordon's argument before? The Brookshttp://www.civitatedei.comnoreply@blogger.com
